Sunday Dinner.
BAC Jet Provost XW417 beside Thirlmere.
(Distance covered =
1.35 mile/Ascent =+12m)
I had wanted to go off for a walk this weekend but I'd promised the Missus I'd take her out somewhere for Sunday dinner. I booked a table at the Swan Hotel at Grasmere which by a strange co-incidence happened to be just down the road from where a BAC Jet Provost crashed beside Thirlmere Lake.
The plan was simple, I'd invite the son and his Wife along, as well as the Grandson, then I could drop the two Wifies at the Swan and me the Son and the Grandson could nip up to Thirlmere for a look at the JP site. The Wife gets her Sunday Dinner and I get my walk, albeit a very short one but better than not getting out at all!

Plans did go a little bit awry on arriving at the Sunday Dinner venue when the Grandson decided he would rather stay with the Wifeys and partake in some scoff than go walking with his Granpa. My Son then decided he would prefer to feed his face instead of walking as well. So I ended up going by myself, which was no hardship really.

My plan went a little bit more awry when I arrived at Steel End Car park, where I was planning on starting my walk, to find the ticket machines only accepted cards; I had only taken along the right amount of coins to pay for the parking and as I had left my card with the Wife to pay for the Sunday lunch, I now had no way to pay the parking fee.
At least having to
find somewhere to park for free
further along the road made my very short walk a
bit longer.
Just a nice little stroll alongside the Lake.
The path running alongside the lake had taken on the look of the Florida Everglades due to what I presume was very high water levels in the Lake, luckily though there were no Alligators. Because of the flooded path it was just as well the Grandson didn't come along as he would of had a whale of a time jumping in all the puddles and getting very wet and very muddy.

There was a man fishing on the Lake shore right next to where I was going to have a bit search in the trees for a piece of the Jet Provost to prove I was in the right spot. I went over and had a chat with him as I thought it best to tell him what I was doing, so that he didn't think there was some sort weirdo loitering about in the bushes.

Although there was hundreds of hits on my metal detector I only manage to find one small bit of melted alluminium that was on the surface, this however was enough for this one to be added to my "Crashsites found" list.
