Vickers Wellington X3171 on Comb Fell

Vickers Wellington X3171 belonging to 15 OTU, crashed on 1st march 1943. Dived into moorland on Comb Moor, Greenhaugh possibly due to an engine fire. There is a memorial to the crew in the Holly Bush Inn in Greenhaugh.*

North American Mustang I belonging to 4 Sqn. Dived into Moorland on Hareshaw head near Bellingham on 19-02-43 while flying from East Moor to Edinburgh*. The pilot F/O Fisher was killed.
